CMI Scallop Hatchery
Bahia Inglesa, Atacama Region, Chile

CMI was an advanced technology scallop farm that operated approximately 20 years before the property was redeveloped as a seafood processing facility. Working with project developers, Ed and Kathy Rhodes, Mr. Hundley was responsible for all aspects of aquacultural engineering and provided support during construction, startup and initial operations. Project included a large seawater intake, filtration, storage and delivery system. Hatchery processes included seawater heating for year-round production and mass algae production systems.
MIT Zebrafish Laboratory
Cambridge, Massachusetts

The Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research brings together biologists and engineers to investigate cancer at the molecular level and to develop new methods, treatments and devices for the benefit of cancer patients. The zebrafish lab designed by Mr. Hundley focused on personnel safety, animal care, reliability, environmental control, and cost effectiveness. It included aquaria rack systems, life support systems, aquaria makeup water systems, low pressure air systems, and monitoring, control and alarm system.
Striped Bass & Oyster Hatcheries
Cambridge, Maryland

As Principal-in-Charge and Aquacultural Engineer, Mr. Hundley designed separate, large capacity marine hatcheries for striped bass and oysters. Systems incorporated recirculating water reuse technology and bio-secure facilities and effluent treatment systems for culturing non-native species. A second phase of the project added a wharf with a high capacity oyster cultch seeding and barge loading center as part of extensive efforts to build oyster reefs and re-establish oyster populations in the Chesapeake Bay.
Clam Hatchery & Wet Storage System
Cedar Key, Florida

Cedar Key Aqua Farms – HTH Principal Paul Hundley was Project Manager and Engineer responsible for design-build delivery of seawater well influent water treatment system comprised of up-flow degassing and flocculation tower, bio-clarifier, and water quality polishing system with chiller and UV disinfection unit. The wet storage system designed to remove grit and extend refrigerated shelf-life. HACCP, shellfish sanitation and water quality protocols were readily approved by the State of Florida.
Duke Marine Lab
Durham, North Carolina

Duke University – Marine Aquatic Animal Research Laboratory – HTH provided engineering and facilities integration services to Integrated Aqua Systems Inc. and Duke Facilities Management to design and install an aquatic animal lab in the Department of Biology. One recirculating system provides a tropical marine environment while a second provides a user selectable environment that ranges from tropical to cold seawater conditions. Key features include glass aquaria, moving bed biofiltration, inline heating and cooling systems, UV disinfection, RO-based water makeup systems, as well as instrumentation and controls.
Healthy Food Hub
East Coast U.S.A.

HTH has teamed with a prestigious Social Enterprise Development Company to develop a unique, urban facility that combines aquaponics, food hub and community center concepts into a sustainable, for-profit, social enterprise. The vision is to develop a model enterprise that will provide healthy food, good jobs and an experience-based educational platform that focuses on modern methods for producing, marketing and delivering local, healthy, reasonably-priced fish and produce. Conceptual design and project planning documents developed by HTH are currently used for ongoing fundraising activities.
LEARN Marine Science High School
Groton, Connecticut

Mr. Hundley has been supporting this 60,000 square foot project since its inception in 2005. His design responsibility included seawater and freshwater delivery and treatment systems; aquaponic and hydroponic growout systems; modular aquaria research systems; flow-through, batch and recirculating aquaculture production systems; broodstock holding and hatchery systems for bivalves, finfish, and crustaceans; as well as related live food production systems for algae, artemia and rotifers.
Claude Peteet Mariculture Center
Gulf Shores, Alabama

Mr. Hundley developed a comprehensive programming report, conceptual design and cost estimate for a new 22,300 SF marine aquaculture laboratory. The goal of this recently constructed project is to facilitate research of Alabama’s coastal environment through enhanced research infrastructure and upgraded research tools. Hundley served as both Project Manager and Aquacultural Project Engineer for this project. Prior to this project, Hundley provided design-supply services for a multispecies marine broodfish conditioning and spawning system at CPMC.
Caribbean Marine Research Lab
St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands

U.S. National Park Service, University of Virgin Islands and Joint Institute for Caribbean Marine Studies – HTH is working with Lord, Aeck & Sargent Architecture in Atlanta, Georgia to provide aquacultural and seawater systems engineering services for an advanced marine research and education center. By definition, this net-zero energy project is a model for sustainable marine laboratory and education center design, construction and operation that fully embraces the tenets of the U.S. Green Building Council and the Living Building Challenge. The center will assist the NPS and VI Government in managing and sustaining territorial and regional marine resources which includes addressing global warming and ocean acidification.

Chatahoochee National Fish Hatchery
Suches, Georgia

As Project Manager and Project Engineer, Mr. Hundley provided comprehensive design development and construction documents for replacement of deteriorated concrete raceways and related underground supply and discharge piping. Special attention was required to replace asbestos cement piping in way of raceway work. A phased construction approach was developed to allow continued seasonal and partial hatchery operations.
Spirulina-Based Fish Feed
United Arab Emirates

Recirculating Aquaculture Systems Integrated with Sustainable Feedstock Production Facility – Based on novel, patented biotechnology, HTH is working with an internationally recognized agronomist to develop a spirulina algae feedstock and recirculating aquaculture production system for naturally cultured tilapia. Facility is sized to produce 3,000 metric tons of whole tilapia per year. Facility includes on-site processing of tilapia filets with processing waste fueling anaerobic digestion and combined heat and power systems. HTH management and technology services include aquaculture, engineering, process integration, construction, startup and operations.
Florida Bass Conservation Center
Webster, Florida

The Florida Bass Conservation Center was designed to spawn, incubate and rear the Florida strain of largemouth bass for stocking throughout the State of Florida. Paul Hundley was on the project team that provided design and construction phase services for approximately $1 million worth of facility repairs, modifications and new construction. Hundley was lead mechanical engineer for addition of carbon filtration to electric water coolers, repair and replacement of several large pipe magnetic flow meters, replacement of the facility water softener system, and the addition of four, 20 ton aquatic heat pumps in the 80 foot concrete raceways. Full range heat and cooling capacity was added for temperature manipulation for broodfish maturation and spawning.
